About This Calculator

The Pregnancy Weight Gain Calculator uses pre-pregnancy height and weight to calculate BMI, then displays the published total pregnancy weight-gain range for the relevant BMI category and for either a singleton or twin pregnancy. It also shows how much weight has changed from the pre-pregnancy value.

Methodology

Pre-pregnancy BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. BMI categories are then mapped to CDC-published Institute of Medicine total pregnancy weight-gain ranges. The calculator reports the range for the full pregnancy; it does not create or judge a personalized week-by-week target.
