Methodology

The calculator uses 60–70% of maximum heart rate as its Zone 2 convention. You may enter a known maximum heart rate; otherwise maximum heart rate is estimated with the Tanaka equation HRmax = 208 − 0.7 × age. The lower and upper values are then rounded to whole beats per minute.
