About This Calculator

The MET Calculator converts an entered metabolic equivalent value into a simple gross energy-expenditure estimate for a chosen body weight and activity duration. It is useful when you already have a MET value from a recognized activity reference such as the Compendium of Physical Activities.

Methodology

Using the conventional Compendium relationship, gross energy expenditure is estimated as MET multiplied by body weight in kilograms multiplied by duration in hours. Calories per minute are the same total divided by activity minutes.

Disclaimer
A MET value represents a standardized estimate rather than a personal metabolic measurement. Actual energy expenditure varies with physiology, technique, environment and how closely the selected MET matches the activity performed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should I get a MET value?

Use a recognized activity reference, such as the Compendium of Physical Activities, and choose the description closest to your activity.

Are MET calories the same as a wearable measurement?
