Running Pace Calculator

Convert distance and finish time into pace per kilometer, pace per mile and average running speed.

Calculate Running Pace

This calculator performs pace and unit arithmetic. The 5K and 10K times shown assume you could hold the same pace over those distances; they are not physiological race predictions.

About This Calculator

The Running Pace Calculator converts a completed distance and elapsed time into pace per kilometer, pace per mile and average speed. It is designed for runners who want a quick way to compare sessions, plan training splits or translate between metric and U.S. customary distance formats.

Methodology

Elapsed time is converted to seconds and distance is standardized to kilometers using the exact international mile conversion of 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometers. Pace is elapsed time divided by distance. Equivalent 5K and 10K times simply extend the same pace and are not physiological race predictions.

This calculator performs distance, time and pace arithmetic. Equivalent times assume the same pace can be maintained and should not be interpreted as a prediction of race performance, fitness level or medical capability.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is running pace calculated?

Pace is total elapsed time divided by distance. The calculator displays that value as minutes and seconds per kilometer and per mile.

What is the difference between pace and speed?

Pace describes time required to cover a unit of distance, while speed describes distance covered per unit of time.

Are the 5K and 10K times race predictions?

No. They are simple same-pace equivalents and do not account for fatigue, endurance, terrain, weather or training status.
