The pack weight is recorded for context, while the selected activity's MET value already represents the load-and-pace description.

Methodology

Choose the Compendium activity that best matches the load, terrain and pace. Gross calories are estimated as MET multiplied by body weight in kilograms multiplied by activity time in hours. The pack is not added to body weight a second time because the activity profile itself represents carrying a load.
